Hospital Transfer Ambulance in Bangalore

Written and reviewed by SaveLife Health Services · last reviewed

If a doctor has told you the patient needs to move to another hospital, call +91 99868 44442. Dispatch is staffed 24 hours a day, every day. Tell us where the patient is now, where they are going, and what the treating team has said about oxygen, a ventilator or monitoring — that decides which vehicle we send. You can also book online, where the fare is shown to you before you confirm anything.

A hospital transfer is different from a roadside emergency. There is usually a doctor already involved, a discharge or referral process running in the background, and often very little time in which you have to organise a vehicle, paperwork and family. This page is about that job specifically.

When people book a hospital-to-hospital transfer

  • A referral to a hospital with a speciality unit the current one does not have.
  • Moving from a smaller nursing home to a larger centre, or the other way around once the patient stabilises.
  • Shifting because the family lives nearer to another part of the city and cannot keep travelling across Bengaluru every day.
  • Insurance or cashless reasons — the family wants treatment continued somewhere the policy works better.
  • A step-down move out of an ICU bed into a ward or a step-down facility.
  • Discharge home, or a scheduled trip out and back for dialysis, chemotherapy, scans or a review.

All of those use the same fleet. What changes is the level of care that travels with the patient.

Choosing the level of ambulance

We do not decide this for you and we should not — ask the doctor or the duty nurse who has been managing the patient. They will tell you plainly whether the patient can travel with oxygen alone or needs monitoring and a ventilator. Then tell us what they said. These are the vehicles you can book:

BLS — Maruti Eeco or Tempo Traveller. Basic life support, oxygen-equipped, with a trained attendant on board. Ask the treating team whether this level suits the journey you have in mind — a step-down transfer, a discharge, a scheduled treatment trip. Air conditioning is available.

ALS — Tempo Traveller. Advanced life support with ventilator, cardiac monitor, suction and infusion pumps, staffed by a trained paramedic.

ACLS — Tempo Traveller. Our cardiac-capable unit: defibrillator, cardiac and multi-parameter monitoring, ventilator, and a critical-care paramedic.

NICU — Tempo Traveller. For newborn and premature infant transfers, with neonatal transport equipment and trained staff.

If you are unsure which of the two vehicles suits your pickup point — a tight basement, an older lane, a lift that will not take a stretcher — describe it when you book and ask us which one to send.

What it costs

Fares are distance-based, worked out from the actual road distance between pickup and drop, and they also depend on the vehicle and whether air conditioning is used. That is why there is no figure printed on this page — anything we printed would be wrong for somebody. The final fare is calculated using the applicable current pricing rules and shown to you before the booking is confirmed. If you are booking by phone, ask for the fare before you agree to the vehicle. We would rather have that conversation than surprise you at the drop point.

What to have ready before the ambulance arrives

The transfer moves faster if these are sorted while the vehicle is on its way:

  • The discharge summary or referral note from the current hospital, and any films, reports or CDs.
  • The name of the receiving hospital and, if you have it, the ward or department and the name of the doctor expecting the patient.
  • Confirmation from the receiving side that a bed is actually held.
  • The exact pickup point — which block, which gate, which floor, and whether the lift takes a stretcher. Tell us if it does not.
  • A family member who will travel. Mention how many people intend to come when you book, and ask what can be accommodated.

What we can and cannot do

We move patients. We do not admit them, hold beds, arrange doctors at the receiving hospital, or negotiate with insurers on your behalf. How a patient should travel is for the treating doctor to decide — tell us what they have advised and we will send the matching vehicle.

We do not publish arrival times. A unit's arrival depends on where the nearest available vehicle is when you call and what the traffic is doing between there and you. Ring us and we will give you an honest answer for that moment rather than a number written months ago.

Bengaluru is our verified operating city. Intercity transfers — a patient going home to another district or another state by road — are arranged on request, so call and describe the journey. Air ambulance and train transport are enquiry-only services and are coordinated case by case.

Booking a planned transfer in advance

If the transfer is scheduled — a discharge tomorrow morning, a dialysis run every Tuesday — book it ahead rather than at the last minute. Give us the date, the time the hospital expects to release the patient, and both addresses. Hospital discharges often run late; if yours slips, message us on WhatsApp at +91 88840 92777 and let us know as early as you can.

To start a transfer now, call +91 99868 44442, WhatsApp +91 88840 92777, or book online and see the fare first.

Common questions

Can you take a patient who is on a ventilator to another hospital?

Yes — ask for the ALS or ACLS Tempo Traveller when you call. Tell us at the time of booking that the patient is ventilated so the correct vehicle and crew are assigned, and confirm the transport plan with the treating doctor first.

How much does a hospital transfer ambulance cost in Bangalore?

The fare depends on the actual road distance between the two hospitals, the vehicle level, air conditioning and the pricing rules in force at the time. We do not publish a figure because it would be inaccurate for most journeys. Book online and the fare appears before you confirm, or call us and ask for it before you agree.

Do I need the discharge summary before the ambulance comes?

Ask the ward or the duty nurse how the release will be handled and when the patient can actually leave — that part is in the hospital's hands, not ours. Keep the discharge or referral note, reports and films together so nothing has to be chased once the vehicle is at the door.

Can a family member travel with the patient?

Please ask us when you book. Tell us how many attendants intend to travel and we will tell you what can be accommodated on the vehicle assigned.

Can you transfer a patient from Bangalore to another city?

Intercity road transfers are arranged on request rather than run as fixed routes. Call and describe the journey — the destination, the patient's condition and the timing — and we will tell you what can be organised. Air ambulance and train transport are handled as enquiries and coordinated separately.

Can you shift a newborn between hospitals?

Yes. The NICU Tempo Traveller is equipped for newborn and premature infant transfers with trained staff. Say it is a neonatal transfer when you call so that unit is assigned from the start.
